Threading Cross

To celebrate Easter when Jesus rose from the cross I have put together a simple, reflective fine motor skill threading activity.

Simply cut out a cross shape from a card board box, maybe use an Easter egg box? Then allow the child to use a hole punch to follow the cross shape making holes along each edge. This is a wonderful life skill to learn and requires concentration, precision and fine motor skill control.

Maybe talk about the cross and what it means to the child igniting faith based conversations. Have the child choose a coloured wool and begin threading it between the holes.

You can choose to either follow the holes threading around the cross shape or as I have done thread the wool through random holes creating a wonderful full, thick pattern. You can alternate colours of wool used to make an interesting rainbow effect. If the child finds it tricky to thread the wool through he holes maybe use a giant wooden or plastic needle to make the threading more direct. This activity promotes hand eye coordination, fine motor skill control, creativity, life skills, precision and concentration.

Finish the activity by placing the cross somewhere you can regularly see it to remind you of Jesus and inspire prayer.

Hope you enjoy this lovely thought provoking threading activity!
