Homemade Mothers Day Cards

Here are some homemade mothers day cards I have put together using very little resources, however they are very effective and a lovely thoughtful gift. Below you will find step by step instructions including photos so that you can make these cards at home!

All you need to make both mothers day cards:

  • Coloured tissue paper squares
  • Cards
  • Glue
  • Felt tip pens
  • 1 pencil
  • Felt circle - you could just draw a circle or use tissue paper.
This is my favourite mothers day card because it uses such a fun yet simple technique to make the beautiful tissue paper flowers.

Start by writing a mothers day message on your card then build the flowers around that. To make the flowers you need to get a pencil and start by scrunching a square of tissue paper around the rubber end of the pencil.

Then dip the tissue paper covered end of the pencil into some PVA glue then repeat the process by wrapping another square of tissue paper around the pencil.

Layering up at least 3 squares of tissue paper on to the end of the pencil. Dipping in to the glue after each layer so that they hold securely. This may sound complicated but its super simple in practise and very achievable for children, supporting their fine motor skill development.

Change up the colours of the tissue paper squares on each layer to give the flowers depth. On the last layer of tissue paper dip the pencil in to the glue as done so for each layer then simply press the pencil on to the card and lift up leaving the tissue paper flower stuck to the card. Then you can fluff out the flower to make it look full and open. Repeat this process to make as many flowers as you would like!

To make the second mothers day card stick a circle of felt in the middle of the card. However, you can draw a circle, use coloured paper or tissue paper.

Then pinch squares of tissue paper to make a petal shape and attach then around the circle using PVA glue. Layering them to get a fuller effect.

Repeat this process around the circle to create a beautiful flower. Think about the colours and how they complement each other, maybe have a look for flowers in your garden for inspiration.

I hope you will enjoy making these mothers day cards at home!
