Sweet Wrapper Crafts

I hate throwing away all of the beautiful coloured Christmas sweet wrappers so have come up with a few craft activities to transform them into something new!

Making butterflies from the sweet wrappers is super simple and very effective. Simply choose two complementing coloured sweet wrappers pinching them together in the centre. Wrap a colourful pipe cleaner around the middle to make the butterflies body and shape antennas to bring it to life.

Ways to use the sweet wrapper butterflies:
  • Add them to a small world bug or fairy land set up.
  • Tie one on to a hair band for a homemade children's hair accessory.
  • Place them around the house and go on a butterfly hunt.
  • This craft is perfect for a butterfly themed children's party activity.
  • They could be used as party centre piece decorations or placeholders.
  • Attach several butterflies to a piece of cotton to make a hanging mobile, this is very effective when displayed in front of a window as the sweet wrappers catch the light like a stain glass window. I attached the cotton to the curtain pole which worked well to display in a child's bedroom or as a themed party decoration.

Another similar way to use sweet wrappers is to make a flower. Simply gather the sweet wrappers together in the desired flower shape and use a colourful pipe cleaner to secure them together to create a flower.

This is a fun fine motor skill activity for a rainy day and could also be given as a gift from a child to someone they love.

There are so many more sweet wrapper ideas that I would love to try out such as:
  • Making a stain glass jar
  • Making a stain glass heart
  • Completing colourful collages
  • Making colourful toilet roll tube binoculars to play I spy colours of the rainbow with
  • Simple colour matching activities
  • Colour sorting and making the rainbow
Here is an example of sorting colours in to colour themes and grading the colours from darkest to lightest. This provides so many maths, colour and creative learning opportunities and this can be a wonderful warm up activity before completing a craft.

I hope you feel inspired to get creative with sweet wrappers!
