Giant Painting Masterpiece

Giant artwork is such as fun activity to inspire children's imagination and creativity, providing them with the freedom to get creative and express themselves on a large scale with no boundaries.

This is a great activity for the summer holidays to include all ages. This activity required little preparation and limited resources making it easy for a quick set up and a last minute activity.

All you need for this activity:
  • A giant cardboard box opened out on the floor or alternatively if you are not expecting any large packages a roll of wall paper also works well and can be picked up at any time from charity shops.
  • Coloured poster paint, this easily washes off of skin and clothing.
  • Paint brushes to allow children to paint a masterpiece.
  • Coloured pens to add small details.
  • Coloured paint sticks or dabber pens for different mark making opportunities.

This activity is perfect for inspiring creativity in all ages, older children can draw and paint play scenes such as a dream house, a beach or draw around themselves and design an outfit. Where as younger children can have the freedom to explore with mark making on a large scale. It is lovely to allow children to experiment with messy play by making hand and foot prints and painting themselves as well as the cardboard adding a sensory dimension to this activity.

This activity is very budget friendly as it uses recycled material as it is based around the packaging of a large box. I would recommend doing this activity outside as this reduces the need to clean up and worry about protecting surfaces, giving the children no limits and the freedom to make mess with no boundaries. I would also recommend having one or two t-shirts specifically saved for painting to allow the children to get messy with out wearing aprons and trying to protect clothing.

I hope you feel inspired to make your own giant painting masterpiece and complete artwork on a large scale!
