7 Sunday Sticking Cupboard Sneak Peaks - Day 1

Over the next 7 Sundays I will be giving you a sneak peak into my sticking cupboard. We named our under the stairs cupboard the sticking cupboard because this is where we keep all of our craft resources, children have free access to this at any time to get creative. Sticking cupboards are super simple and budget friendly to put together and they provide endless opportunities for creativity and imagination.

Day 1 of 7 Sunday Sticking Cupboard Sneak Peaks - Material, interesting textured materials and card/calendar/promotional leaflet cut outs.

The first drawer in our sticking cupboard contains 3 main resources:

1. Material - Material left overs from sewing projects, lost socks and gloves, old items of clothing, fabric from charity shops. I keep all of this in a labelled bag to make it easy to find.

There are many different ways to use material such as making sock puppets, children can practice their sewing skills, making clothes for dolls and teddy bears and large pieces of material can be used as a base for play set ups.

2. Interesting textured materials - This section contains different materials to explore and discover using your senses such as bubble wrap from packaging, netting from food wrappers, fluffy material from a dressing up costume, party bag from a birthday and sequin material from an old outfit. This is all very easy to put together and collect over the years. Anything you may normally throw away think about its texture and how it could be used for another creative purpose. Maybe ask family and friends for any interesting materials they may have to add to your sticking cupboard.

There are many different ways to use these interesting materials such as putting together a sensory tray for children to explore different textures, use the different materials in crafts and collage making to add depth to the creation, use bubble wrap and netting for printing paint or make a sensory book using the interesting materials.

3. Cards, calendar and promotional leaflet cut outs - This is probably the most used part of our sticking cupboard! I save all of the birthday and Christmas cards we receive to add to our sticking cupboard. Old calendars, tissue boxes or packaging I cut out the pictures from and add them to the drawer. Also promotion leaflets collected at events or those that are posted through the door with images to inspire imagination are added to the drawer. Making this drawer easy and free to put together and replenish over time.

There are many different ways to use these card resources such as cutting out small flowers and details from cards to make new birthday and thank you cards for others, this is a great way to do eco friendly gluing and sticking activities because you are reusing materials that would otherwise been thrown away, promotional house leaflets can be used to make future dream boards or a design your own house activity and cutting out pictures from old Christmas cards can make fantastic reusable labels to stick on next years Christmas presents.

I hope you have enjoyed this first sneak peak into my sticking cupboard, come back next Sunday to see the next drawer full of creative inspiration!
